Before going into recommending some of Stephen King audio books, there is an urge to introduce the genius himself as briefly as possible. However, just like any other great mind that has ever lived, summing up Stephen’s life in one or two paragraphs won’t be as easy as it seems. Nevertheless, Stephen King is one of two sons of his separated parents and grew up in Durham, Maine where he went to school. Stephen made his first pro short story sale (“The Glass Floor”) to unbelievable mystery Stories in 1967 and throughout the early years of his writing career, he prolonged to sell stories to men’s magazines.
Today, King is known as the “King of mystery and Horror”, as most – if not all his writings – are about scaring the hell out of people. His first permissible novel came in the form of Carrie, followed by the originally titled Second coming later renamed Jerusalem’s Lot, before it became ‘Salem’s Lot. From then on, he never looked back and by 2003, he became a recipient of The National Book Foundation Medal for grand offering to American Letters.

1. Carrie:
Carrie happens to be Stephen King’s first permissible novel but was not made into an audio book until 2005. The story tells listeners of a misfit high-school girl, Carrie White, who moderately discovers that she has telekinetic powers – the potential to move an object on the corporal plane using only psychic power. Being constantly bullied by her peers in school and repressed by her overbearing, ultra-religious mother, Carrie’s efforts to fit in lead to a dramatic confrontation during the senior prom, a must “listen to” if you are an avid King fan.
2. Salem’s Lot:
Released in 2004, the audio book, Salem’s Lot tells the story of an author, Ben Mears, who returns to ‘Salem’s Lot to write a book about a house that has haunted him since childhood. To his many surprise, he finds his hometown isolated and infested with blood sucking vampires. The story gets even more curious as Ben convinces a small group of followers to come face to face with the vampires who were claiming more and more victims.
3. The Dark Tower I to Vii
The Dark Tower is one of Stephen’s most favorite works as it has up to seven chapters in all. It is an epic horror/dark fantasy/post-apocalyptic sci-fi series based colse to a long march to the Dark Tower. Stephen King began writing this book back in 1970 when he was still a fledgling writer with great ambitions. The main character is Roland Deschain. The last episode of the story takes him and his group on the final stretch of their journey to The Dark Tower. Though they have rescued Susannah, one of the friends, there still have enemies to be dealt with along the way and who could be their ultimate destruction.
